I’m Janette! I'm an award-winning documentary maker, media consultant and for four years I ran the BBC's international programme helping young people find their way in the online world. Now, I'm a mum of three primary school children who want to go online all the time. 

 

And here's the thing; I want my kids to go online, to see the internet as a place to explore, learn and connect. But like many people, I'm worried. I fear the bullying, grooming and porn. And I'm scared they'll see sexist, racist, violent and self harm content.

 

I also have to admit I find it really hard to control their access. I'm busy, juggling and tired, and sometimes I just need another ten minutes to finish something. So I give them a screen. Just me?

 

I started Be Smart Cookie® to help families like mine become screen-safe-&-smart cookies. And because I know how busy life can be, I offer resources that are deliberately short, simple and sympathetic - meeting you and your child where you are, with no judgement or expectation.
